The Atelier Process: Why We Don't Rush
In an era of immediate gratification, Hulmara remains dedicated to the slow, deliberate art of furniture making. We do not pull stock from a dusty warehouse. Your bed does not exist until you commission it.
Here is the journey your piece takes from our workshop to your sanctuary:
1. Material Selection & Acclimation
The process begins with the timber. We source premium Solid American White Oak, hand-selecting planks for grain continuity and character. Before a single cut is made, the raw lumber is allowed to acclimate in our workshop environment. This crucial "resting" phase ensures the wood reaches optimal moisture content, preventing warping or cracking—a step mass manufacturers inevitably skip.
2. Architectural Milling
The defining vertical slats of the headboard are not stamped; they are precision-milled and hand-aligned. Our master joiners ensure that the spacing is mathematically perfect, creating a visual rhythm that calms the eye. Every edge is hand-sanded to a soft, tactile finish, removing sharpness while preserving the architectural integrity of the design.
3. Bespoke Upholstery
While the wood is being finished, the platform base is constructed. Our upholstery team treats the frame like a tailored suit. Whether you have chosen our heavy Bouclé, Wool, or Velvet, the fabric is hand-tensioned and pleated. We use high-density, varying-firmness foams to ensure the base is not just aesthetically pleasing, but soft to the touch—eliminating the dread of shin-bumping against a hard frame.
4. The Final Inspection
Before crating, your bed is fully assembled in our studio to ensure the joinery aligns perfectly. Only after it passes a rigorous visual and tactile inspection is it disassembled and white-glove packed for transit.
A Note on Lead Times: Because we build to order, production typically requires 4-6 weeks. We believe that a piece of furniture meant to last a lifetime is worth waiting a season for.
